The role of Telcos in content creation / aggregation

It is interesting to see Telcos scale back or even exit their forays into digital media and content creation / aggregation. 

Historically Telcos have had the mindset that they need to move up the value chain in TV and Media - by becoming content creators and aggregators - or else risk becoming a commodity provider ("Dumb Pipes"). 

This notion is now being challenged with Telcos not seeing the type of success that they would have expected.

But telecoms companies have on the whole struggled to establish themselves as creators and owners of the programming distributed over their cellular networks and wires.
