No rest for the wicked

Fraud is on the increase... more evidence is emerging in the UK. Inevitably there are more people shopping online, paying contactless and seeking assistance - all opening up attack vectors for fraudsters.

As consumers, we need to be alert and cautious during lockdown. Financial services providers would be wise to go the extra mile to protect consumers at this vulnerable time - they will remember who made life easier and safer, and who didn't, after the lockdown finishes.

UK Finance, the industry body for UK lenders, has warned self-isolating people to beware of fraudsters looking to steal their money with false offers of help. “With large swaths of the population self-isolating following the outbreak of Covid-19, unfortunately criminals are looking at new ways to target people, and just like the virus they do not care whose lives they impact,” the group said in a statement this week.  “Theft can be committed by anyone, including those known to you and seemingly legitimate, or otherwise.”
