Fake news is one of the major societal ills of our time, a misleading distraction at best and an instigator of harm at worst. It's good to see WhatsApp trying to limit its spread, but what else can we do to apply the tools of advanced analytics to spot and limit the spread of damaging falsehoods? This is a genuinely challenging problem, but one worthy of our best minds.
One potential avenue for enquiry - using the same tools that have been applied with promising early results to spotting suspicious or fraudulent transactions in financial services. What do you think?
